Surprise! You’re Pregnant! When Essure Doesn’t Work

— October 20, 2015

The failure rate of “permanent” birth control implant, Essure, is several times that which is advertised by Bayer, its maker. In fact, it is several times that of tubal ligation, the surgical procedure Essure was meant to replace.

Imagine being in your 40s and finding, despite having “permanent” birth control implanted, that you’re expecting. That happens to more Essure patients than you might think. Those in their 20s, 30s and 40s who hadn’t planned on having a baby are hearing, “Surprise! You’re Pregnant!” when Essure doesn’t work.

It’s not just the 0.5% that Bayer would have us believe, either. Try 9.6%, which is roughly 10-15 times the failure rate of tubal ligation, the surgical procedure Essure was designed to replace.

The “E-Babies” you’ll see in this video are adorable, of course. The hard truth is that many Essure pregnancies don’t have such happy endings. A good number of them are high-risk pregnancies – dangerous to both mother and baby – which often result in birth defects or miscarriages.

The truth about Essure needs to be spread far and wide. Bayer and the FDA sure won’t do it; it’s up to us. Please share this, and all real information, with everyone, especially those you know who have or are considering getting Essure.

There is also a Facebook group, Essure Problems, which offers moral support and good information for Essure victims.

Activist Erin Brockovich has created a website, Essure Procedure, in an effort to create change regarding this horrible device.
